Gregory Renard is a pioneering Artificial Intelligence entrepreneur and architect with 25 + years of experience in applied NLP, Knowledge Graph, LLM and large-scale AI systems.

 

In 2012 he launched Angie, France’s first large-scale conversational assistant, holds 200+ publications, patents, awards, and received NASA’s 2022 Merit Award for his applied artificial intelligence contributions to space and earth sciences.

Gregory Renard is a hands-on AI architect whose track record reaches back to 1996, when he shipped France’s first NLP call-centre stack and began a career dedicated to making language technology work at industrial scale .


In 2012 he introduced Angie — the “French Siri” — a fully-featured personal assistant that set a new bar for European dialogue systems . (Techdays 2012)

Today his portfolio includes a dozen issued AI patents in voice, zero-shot dialogue, and knowledge transfer, along with over 200 publications and talks—among them a Nature paper on generative AI and machine intelligence.


NASA, SETI , FDL.AI and the U.S. DOE recognised his applied-AI work with the 2022 NASA FDL AI Merit Award for Space & Earth Science , and he has served since 2016 on the programme’s AI Technical Committee, guiding projects from storm prediction to H₂-discovery engines .

Gregory’s policy impact is equally concrete: co-initiator of AI4Humanity (2018) and contributor to the Villani report (2017) that anchors France and Europe’s AI strategy ; reserve member of the EU High-Level Expert Group on AI ; co-author of the Holberton-Turing Oath setting early ethical guard-rails for the industry in 2018.
 


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In academia he co-founded the Sociology-NLP Research Group at UC Berkeley’s Matrix Department in 2020 and regularly lectures at TEDx(Jun 7, 2015), Stanford, Institute for Advanced Study, Berkeley, Holberthon School (2016) and 42 School. 


Across sectors—automotive (2015) and humanoid robots voice platforms (2013), customer-service augmentation for global banks, supply-chain AI for e-commerce and award-winning space-tech—his common thread is delivering production-grade applied AI systems at scale and on-time. 

He also co-founded Everyone.AI, a nonprofit promoting responsible, inclusive AI adoption for children today, for everyone tomorrow.
